Welcome to St Mary's Church

St Mary's Church Flower Group

At present St Mary's flower arrangers consists of 15 members (more are always welcome!). Some are professional, and some are not, but all enjoy flower arranging.

We have a rota of 3 each fortnight who are responsible for each one doing a vase: one at the West End, one by the pillar in front of the Altar, and the two little niches each side of the Altar in St Leonard's chapel. They are all responsible for keeping their vases fresh and watered during the fortnight. We have no flowers in Lent or Advent.

Mothering Sunday
All members meet in the Chantry House to make posies, which are given out after the Sunday service on this special day.

At Easter we have a collection towards lilies to decorate the Church for Easter. People are invited to donate "A lily in memory of a loved one". This has proved very popular and enabled at least 16 arrangements to be done.

At Regatta we have a pink and white theme, as these are Leander colours.

Harvest Festival
All members do as many arrangements as possible in bright colours with fruits and berries - and a Harvest Loaf to make St Mary's joyous and festive in November.

Christmas
We always meet for lunch to have a discussion as to who does what and where, and the colour scheme, usually white, silver and gold. Several years ago we all got together and had fun making red banners with white angels to hang on the Church pillars either side of the aisle. A picture of one of these can be seen in the picture gallery.

Wedding Flowers
Once the marriage ceremony date is fixed, an arrangement is made to meet with the Bride, family and chosen florist to discuss and advise on the various arrangements. Sometimes the flowers are transferred to the reception. Should this be the case, we do request that at least two arrangements are left in St Mary's.
