THE PARISH CHURCH OF ST MARY THE VIRGIN, HENLEY-ON-THAMES

Church at Home – Remembrance Sunday

We can’t gather at St Mary’s for our usual Sunday service, but we can all join a collective act of worship from our homes. You can do this at 9:30am or 11:15am on Sunday morning, or whenever else is convenient.

Our organist, Sebastian Thomson, has recorded William Walton’s Elegy, as an introduction to our service. Click the triangular play button below to hear it.

Sing along to our hymn, “O God our help in ages past”, sung for us by members of the choir. Click the triangular play button below to hear the music; the words are:

O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home;

Under the shadow of thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.

Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting thou art God,
To endless years the same.

A thousand ages in thy sight
Are like an evening gone,
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.

Time, like an ever-rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;
They fly forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be thou our guard while troubles last,
And our eternal home.

Isaac Watts 1674-1748

Church at Home is an experiment, an attempt to keep our community together while the Covid-19 virus disrupts our normal life.
